Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother turns what could have been a standard revenge thriller into something much more emotional and character-driven story about a man finding himself again after unimaginable loss. Mahershala Ali is perfectly suited to the role of Latif, as he balances intense physicality with the vulnerability of a grieving father struggling with faith, family, and his own identity. I especially like how the action reportedly serves the story rather than existing purely for spectacle. Latif’s emotional unraveling gives the fight sequences greater meaning, making his journey feel personal as well as thrilling. Ali’s previous training for Blade also appears to have paid off, allowing him to bring a convincing physical presence to the role. John Cho’s eccentric performance as Pastor Kwan sounds like a fun contrast, too. Most importantly, the film makes Marvel’s decision to abandon Blade feel even more frustrating. If Ali and Bassam Tariq created something this compelling together, their version of Blade could have been something truly special.
