Color Book. Directed by David Fortune

There’s nothing more satisfying than a good “slice of life” movie. As simple as they may seem, they can be incredibly moving and Color Book is bound to move you to tears. We follow Lucky (William Catlett), a single father raising his son Mason (Jeremiah Daniels), who has Down syndrome, after the sudden loss of his wife. Together, they journey through Atlanta’s Metro to attend their very first baseball game. Along the way, they process their grief and learn how to live with each other again. Color Book is a film of few words, but it speaks volumes. It’s minimalist storytelling at its best. And with beautiful performances from William Catlett and Jeremiah Daniels, Color Book is sure to leave you smiling

Cat Town, USA. Directed by Jonathan Napolitano

Anyone who owns a pet, especially cat owners, needs to watch Jonathan Napolitano’s Cat Town, USA. We follow Bruce and Terry Jenkins, who run Cat Town, a retirement home and sanctuary for senior and aging cats. Simple in construction and bittersweet in tone, this short and tender documentary shines a light on the healing power of caring for animals when they need it most and the heartbreak of saying goodbye when their time comes. It’s the kind of film that’s bound to move you to tears. My audience? Full-on ugly crying.
