Mother Mary. Directed by David Lowery

I don’t have that much to say so I am going to keep this short and sweet.
David Lowery’s Mother Mary is an experience, for better or worse. One part love story, the other part ghost story, Mother Mary dives into the complicated relationship between pop-star, Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) and her former stylist Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel). Filled with great performances, excellent music, and dreamlike visuals you may be confused at the end of the film. But it doesn’t make it any the less enthralling as we explore their complicated supernatural relationship
My Rating: B
Mother Mary is now playing in theaters nationwide.
The Devil Wears Prada 2. Directed by David Frankel

I don’t have that much to say so I am going to keep this short and sweet.
While The Devil Wears Prada 2 is an unnecessary sequel, it doesn’t take away how surprisingly smart it is for a legacy sequel. Instead of rehashing the original film, though it does share the same basic structure, it manages to be something new and actually pushes this story in a new direction that makes sense for our modern times. The first film focused on hustle work culture and the toxic state of the fashion industry. Its sequel, turns its gaze at the dire state of journalism and the arts as it is currently being gutted by billionaires with workers being replaced by AI. With that being the film’s center, it gives our characters an interesting situation for them to navigate that affects all of them, including the great Miranda Priestly. Though the film doesn’t dive as deep as I wanted it to, especially when it came to some of these characters navigating this situation, it is entertaining nonetheless with great performances and some excellent fashion choices.
